Arthropathy

Arthropathy is a rare chromosomal genetic syndrome where the male person has an extra Y male chromosome. It is one of the most frequent and disabling complications of acromegaly. Common result of Arthropathy is overgrowth of the articular cartilage. overgrowth of cartilage in random places resulting in altered joints and cartilage and ligament problems. The most frequently affected joits are knees, shoulders and lumbar spine.

Arthropathy Symptoms

Common arthropathy symptoms are joint problems and joint deformity. Ligament and cartilage problems are also a symptom of arthropathy. Some people do not exhibit visible symptoms until older age when their symptoms begin to show up due to weakening of their overall skeletal system.

Arthropathy Causes

Arthropathy is caused by genetic and chromasomal abnormalities, but typically are problematic when accompanied by other forms of arthritis like degenerative disc disease of other parts of the spine, or spinal stenosis.

Arthropathy Tests

Arthropathy patients with accompanying arthritis problems will show evidence of facet joint degeneration on a CT scan (CAT scan) or MRI. Bone scans can show spinal inflammation can show whether the arthropathy is contributing to a patient's back pain. If facet joints treatment relieves a significant amount of the patient's back pain, and there is evidence to suggest that the facet joints are arthritic, diagnosis of facet arthropathy can be made.

Arthropathy Treatment

Arthropathy treatment consists of being conservative with your body, physical therapy and muscle strengthening. Anti-inflammatory foods and drugs can help. In severe cases, hip or other joint replacement is needed. To stop long-term disability, hormonal management therapy is often prescribed for arthropathy.
